While the movie didn’t do very well in the cinemas around the world, it felt good to watch an important Nigerian story come alive on the big screen.

On Monday Last Week tells the story of a Nigerian woman on her journey to self-realization. Kamara is an educated Nigerian woman working as a housekeeper who struggles with the overanxious parenting of a lawyer father and the false intimacy of his artist wife.

It tells a story of identity, family, immigration, and the other themes that we have come to recognise as Chimamanda’s forte.

Kamara, the protagonist will be played by Chinasa Ogbuagu, a Nigerian actress doing fine work in Hollywood.

Chinasa has featured in films like, A Walk Among the Tombstones, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and a bunch of others. Only recently, she starred in an off-Broadway play, Sojourners.

While work is set to begin in July, the major challenge presently is that the project still needs funding. A $30,000 Kickstarter campaign has been started. You can learn more and support the project here.
